3D Studio Max (kadangkala disebut 3ds Max atau hanya MAX) adalah sebuah perangkat lunak grafik vektor 3-dimensi dan animasi, ditulis oleh Autodesk Media & Entertainment (dulunya dikenal sebagai Discreet and Kinetix. Perangkat lunak ini dikembangkan dari pendahulunya 3D Studio fo DOS, tetapi untuk platform Win32. Kinetix kemudian bergabung dengan akuisisi terakhir Autodesk, Discreet Logic. Versi terbaru 3Ds Max pada Juli 2005 adalah 7. 3Ds Max Autodesk 8 diperkirakan akan tersedia pada akhir tahun. Corel Draw adalah editor grafik vektor yang dibuat oleh Corel, sebuah perusahaan perangkat lunak yang bermarkas di Ottawa, Kanada. Versi terakhirnya versi 15 yang dinamai X5 dirilis pada tanggal 23 Februari 2008. Corel Draw pada awalnya dikembangkan untuk dijalankan pada sistem operasi Windows 2000 dan yang lebih baru. Versi Corel Draw untuk Linux dan Mac OS pernah dikembangkan, tetapi dihentikan karena tingkat penjualannya rendah.

Hints

Hints berada pada sisi kanan kotak dialog utama sistem. Fasilitas ini memberikan petunjuk apa dan bagaimana memproses suatu objek gambar/teks.



Menu Bar

Menu Bar berada pada bagian atas kotak dialog utama sistem. Sistem menu CorelDRAW X4 menggunakan standar sistem operasi Windows yang sangat memudahkan pemakaian.



Standard Toolbar


Standard toolbar terletak di bawah menu bar. Pada standard toolbar, sistem meletakkan simbol proses cepat. Misalnya terdapat simbol seperti folder untuk membuka suatu data grafis CorelDRAW.



Property Bar

Property bar adalah fasilitas tambahan yang muncul setelah memilih salah satu alat dalam fasilitas toolbox. Tujuannya untuk mempermudah pemakaian alat fasilitas toolbox terpilih. Property bar biasanya berada di bawah standard toolbar.

Picasa is an image organizer and image viewer for organizing and editing digital photos, plus an integrated photo-sharing website, originally created by Idealab in 2002 and owned by Google since 2004. "Picasa" is a blend of the name of famed Spanish painter Pablo Picasso; the phrase mi casa for "my house", and "pic" for pictures (personalized art). In July 2004, Google acquired Picasa and began offering it as a free download. Native applications for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X (Intel only) are available through Google Labs. For Linux, Google has bundled Wine with the Windows version to create an installation package rather than write a native Linux version, but this version is severely out of date (the latest Windows version, however, can be run with Wine, see Linux section). For Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows 2000, only an older version is available. There is also an iPhoto plugin or a stand-alone program for uploading photos available for Mac OS X 10.4 and later.



Web Album alternatives

There are, however, also other programs that can upload to Picasa Web Albums. GwenView and DigiKam can upload to Picasa Web Albums when you install the kipi-plugins package and Shotwell can upload it without any plugins.



Organization and editing

For organizing photos, Picasa has file importing and tracking features, as well as tags, facial recognition, and collections for further sorting. It also offers several basic photo editing functions, including color enhancement, red eye reduction and cropping. Other features include slide shows, printing and image timelines. Images can also be prepared for external use, such as for e-mailing or printing, by reducing file size and setting up page layouts. There is also integration with online photo printing services.

 


Keywords

Picasa uses picasa.ini files to keep track of keywords for each image. In addition to this, Picasa attaches IPTC keyword data to JPEG files, but not to any other file format. Keywords attached to JPEG files in Picasa can be read by other image library software like Adobe Photoshop Album, Adobe Bridge, digiKam, and iPhoto.



According to Picasa Readme,Picasa can parse XMP data. However, it cannot search local files for existing XMP keywords.

 


Searching

Picasa has a search bar that is always visible when viewing the library. Searches are live in that displayed items are filtered as you type. The search bar will search filenames, captions, tags, folder names, and other metadata.

Picasa also supports boolean operators for searching in much the same way as Google's web search. All search terms are required by default (as with the operator "AND"), and images tagged with specified keywords can be excluded by using the hyphen (as in the boolean operator "NOT"). For example, searching for family children -friends will cause Picasa to display all images with the keywords "family" and "children", but which do not include the keyword "friends".



Picasa also has an experimental feature in the search bar where images can be searched for that contain certain colors with the "color:" operator.




Viewing

Picasa has no separate view window. There is only an "edit view" with a viewing area. Fullscreen view is available in slideshow mode, by holding down the ctrl+alt keys while in "edit view", or by pressing the Alt Gr key. This feature is also available through the context menu of Windows Explorer, and provides a way to start the Picasa editor as well.

 


Backup

In Picasa 2 and earlier versions, changes to pictures made in Picasa overwrite the original file, but a backup version of the original is saved in a hidden folder named "Originals" in the same folder as the original picture (.picasaoriginals on Mac OSX) .



In Picasa 3, changes to pictures made in Picasa are saved to a hidden file picasa.ini in the same folder as the original picture. This allows multiple edits to be performed without altering the original image. Viewing the picture in Picasa or using the Picasa Photo Viewer will apply modifications on the fly, whereas viewing through other programs (such as Windows XP's Photo and Fax Viewer) will display the original image. Changes can also be made permanent using the "Save" function, where the original file is backed up and the modified version is written in its place, similar to version 2.

 


Face recognition

On 15 August 2006, Google announced it had acquired Neven Vision whose technology can be used to search for features within photos such as people or buildings. Google applied this technology for face recognition and this functionality was launched on Picasa Web Albums on 2 September 2008.




Neven Vision incorporates several patents specifically centered around face recognition from digital photo and video images. Neven Vision's technology was among the top finishers in both the FERET 1997 and FRVT 2002 independent tests comparing the world's best face recognition technologies.




Turbo C

TurboC is a linkable library and a set of C header files that make it easier to port C code originally written for Borland's MS-DOS based Turbo C compiler to GNU gcc -- and therefore to a wide variety of *nix computer platforms. Generally speaking, it is the following:



* An implementation via ncurses of conio.h from Turbo C.

* An implementation via Xlib of graphics.h from Turbo C.

* A few other functions and time-saving features thrown in for convenience.

* A means of overcoming the integer datatype discrepancies between Turbo C and GNU gcc.

It is not, by any means, a complete solution, but you may find it helpful. The support for graphics.h is in its relatively early stages.



TurboC is available as free software under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL).  



Why was TurboC created?

I have written quite a lot of MS-DOS based software using Borland's Turbo C 2.0 compiler. When the inclination finally hit me to make some of this otherwise-deceased code available as free software, my first innocent idea was to release it under the GPL, simply labeling it honestly as MS-DOS code, and then later to port the code to *nix as time and interest permitted. It was obvious that directly porting to *nix up-front would be a time-consuming task.



But I ran into a snag. It's no good to release software if there's no way for anybody to find out about it. My preferred channel for announcing open-source software is freshmeat, but freshmeat doesn't "do" MS-DOS (and therefore politely declined to accept my MS-DOS projects).



Apparently, necessity really is the mother of invention. It occurred to me that if I could provide appropriate Turbo C compatible libraries and header files, then the effort of porting Turbo C code to *nix would be greatly simplified. In other words, it would be relatively easy to provide *nix versions of the old MS-DOS code. Whether it's absolutely easy or not depends a lot on the program you're trying to port.



Alternate Approaches

For conio.h functionality, you might consider Pablo Vidal's UConio library instead. I've not used it, and don't know its advantages and disadvantages. It certainly supports a much smaller subset of conio functionality than TurboC, and requires you to modify your source code much more extensively.



Borland supposedly has (or will soon have) a Linux version of their C++ compiler. At this point, the nature, price, and target platforms of this compiler are mysteries. One presumes that (like Kylix) it will be Wine-based, and therefore will work only on 'x86 systems. Nevertheless, if it contains the various library functions implemented in the TurboC library -- and frankly, that's a very big "if" -- it might provide a simpler means of porting your Turbo C programs to Linux. Speaking for myself, even though I have been a long-time Borland user, I philosophically prefer to compile my program with GNU gcc.



For graphics.h functionality, there is the GRX library of Csaba Biegl, Michael Goffioul, and Hartmut Schirmer. I didn't discover this library until I had only a few graphics.h functions left to write, and I haven't fully evaluated it. Its stated aim is to be a multi-platform 2D graphics library. Its website does not advertise (or even mention) Turbo C compatibility. However, it contains quite a few functions of the same name (and, apparently, the same functionality) as Turbo C library functions.



Of course, if you are only interested running your program on *nix systems -- as opposed to porting the program to *nix systems in general -- you might be able to simply run your existing executable using one of the freely available DOS emulators for Linux. DOS emulation using dosemu with freedos works very well on 'x86 systems, while bochs with freedos works well (if somewhat slowly) on non-'x86 *nix systems.



Features



* TurboC provides most of the console-i/o functionality of Turbo C's conio.h header, mapping it to related ncurses functionality. (Currently, every conio function except cscanf is supported.)

* TurboC provides most of the "BGI" functionality of Turbo C's graphics.h header. At present (20020608), implementation of these features is mostly complete except for the temporary lack of stroked-font support.

* TurboC provides a sprinkling of other missing functionality like the strupr and strlwr functions.

* Check out the complete list of available functions.



Deficiencies



* Refer to the complete list of bugs and issues. So far, the library is only as complete as it needs to be for the kind of programs I typically used to write in Turbo C. As I port more of my old programs to *nix, the TurboC libraray will presumably become more complete. Presently, support for conio.h is essentially complete, and support for graphics.h is essentially complete except for displaying text.

* In the ported program, the text-console window is logically sized properly, but is not physically sized properly unless xterm is used. If other terminals are used (such as KDE Konsole), the window must be resized manually by the user.

* Borland's Turbo C is a 16-bit compiler, whereas the GNU gcc compiler I'm targeting is 32-bit. This results in a discrepancy in the integer datatypes. TurboC handles the (hopefully) most common cases by means of macros; unhandled cases will cause compile-time errors and must be fixed manually. This is covered in detail on the usage page.

* Mixing and matching stream-based functionality (like getchar ,printf, and so on) with "console" based functionality (like getch, cprintf, and so on) probably won't work. Again, look at the usage page.
